…”Therefore I counsel you to buy from me gold, refined by fire, so that you may be rich…” – Revelation 3:18

Jesus Christ says this to the church in Laodicea. It is followed by Jesus telling them that they are neither hot nor cold, but lukewarm, and since they are lukewarm He is about to spit them out of His mouth. They think they are blessed because they have great wealth, and just sort of stay stagnent in their relationship with Christ; hoping to remain comfortable and die peacefully in their sleep. Laodicea sounds very similar to churches all across America. It seems the following cannot be emphasized enough…we cannot conquer without suffering for Christ.

In each letter Christ tells john to write He ends by saying,…”To he who conquers….” He does not say to he who gets by without a scratch, or to he who can love as many people as possible, but rather “To he who conquers…” We are called to conquer. To overcome. Not to get by, or to stay sheltered. I would go so far as to say, that if in the world, at some point in your life, if you are not hated, beaten, mocked, pushed, imprisoned, or spit upon for the cause of Christ you may be doing something wrong. You may be in the process of being spat out by Christ Jesus. The world seems to teach a lot about love. The word love is in secular music, shows, and movies. Our politicians speak of love being greater than hate, but it’s a faux love. A love quickly turned when persuaded otherwise.

A love that can quickly turn to hate. The message of love will soon change ever so slowly in the world to hate. It’s time for the people of God to be hated for all the right reasons. The time is soon coming when the name of Jesus Christ will be a name that sets off attacks in this country that will be praised by governments and people who still feel like they are practicing love. When that day comes will you desire to be hated for the cause of Christ, or have the love of the world? the first guarantees life and riches not seen in this place; the latter offers a temporary foxhole that will protect you for a time, but will, in the end, also be your grave. The time to be hated is fast approaching. Welcome it with open arms; for our reward is great and our God is greater! Be strong. Overcome.
